I met Billy in the early 1970's when he was a pressman at the Red River Printing plant. I was in an intern program, but spent a lot of time at the printing plant. Billy and I became good friends and he attended my fathers funeral in Avery which I appreciated. My family originally was from Avery. My grandfather was the postmaster. I am now 82 and live in Birmingham, Al. God bless you Billy.

Billy was the oldest of all the cousins, he was always so grown up before his time. He was always with a big heart and hard working. My son Elias just wrote a note for all of our link of this wonderful family. We were to come in the spring and visit all our loved ones. In the past when we did come back Billy was always right beside my Aunt Odessa at her house BBQ ing in the back yard and making our visit so special regardless what Billy was doing at the time, he always took time to do and help others. I would like to send my love to my Aunt Janet, Billys mom, my two cousins, Billys sisters, Sally and Mary and to Billys children Jeff and Kristy and their families

I am heartsick to learn of Bill's death. He and his dear family have been a part of my life for almost all my life. My heart goes out to you all. Bill was a special person in that he had such a sweet manner about him; who could ever not like him? He loved to laugh. He always enjoyed life. He was serious about his work there at the place; he wanted to leave a legacy for Jeff and Michelle. Bill and I had lost touch over the years, but I have never forgotten the times we had together. He was, and always will be, a special part of my life.

I first met Billy Hembree in 1988. I enjoyed time on his farm where he cooked up fresh green beans and red potatoes over an open fire in a big cast iron skillet. After more than 20 years, I still think of Billy when I cook green beans and red potatoes! I never heard a negative word come out of his mouth. He was funny and polite, kind and patient. Jeff and Kristy Michelle, you had a wonderful dad and I am so sorry for your loss. Grandma Jo, I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child and my heart aches for you. You raised a very well-mannered gentleman. I know that you have many great memories to hold on to during this season. Be blessed.

I always, always enjoyed time spent with Bill ...his sense of humor was enjoyed by anyone who had the good fortune to spend time with him. I would like to express my deepest sorrow to his mother, such a gracious lady. And to Jeff and Kristy, my heart aches for you to have lost both of your wonderful parents in such a short timespan. My thoughts and prayers are with all of Bill's many beloved friends and family. May God bless each of you.

Bill was my neighbor for many many years, he has helped me out many times over the years, he was always there to lend a helping hand. IF he saw me out in the yard working or struggling with some difficult task he would always stop and ask "Do you need some help?" He even let me borrow his truck once to drive to work because my car was broke down. I'm still in shock that he has left us. My prayers go out to his loved ones. He will be greatly missed!
