She married Herman Henry Hausler on November 11, 1955 and had two sons, Douglas Evetts of Clarksville, Texas and Tony Hausler of Arlington, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother. Survivors include her sons, daughters-in-law Anne Evetts of Clarksville and Donna Hausler of Arlington, one grandson, Chris Evetts of Dallas, Texas, one sister-in-law, Jo Humphrey of Greenwood, Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Paul Allen, Jim Calloway, Jim Clark, Larry Golightly, Boyd Hurt, Gary Porterfield, James Vaughan and David Wilkerson. Mary was a lifelong resident of Red River County and attended school at Lanes Chapel and Clarksville. While accompanying her father on his many trips throughout the County to sell Rawleigh Products, she developed a love for the County and its history. As a result she became a dedicated historian and served as County Clerk of Red River County for 20 years from 1978 until her retirement in 1998. Prior to that she was a Deputy Clerk for 8 years from 1964 to 1972. Her husband Herman was the love of her life and they enjoyed many things together, including going fishing and collecting antiques. She was devoted to the preservation of local history and enjoyed researching her family’s genealogy, as well as assisting others in researching theirs. If anyone had a question about Red River County, they were told to ask Mary Hausler. Her reply was generally “Let me check, I know I have a file on that subject somewhere”. She owned and operated an antique store, the Donoho, located on the town square in Clarksville, from the time of her retirement until her death. She was especially fond of decorating the Donoho for Christmas each year. She also owned and ran a bed and breakfast, The Oaks, for many years which is located on her parents’ home place just west of Clarksville. She enjoyed almost anything that required working with her hands, including cooking, gardening, repairing picture frames and working on her many projects. Probably one of her favorite past times was going to auctions, garage sales or estate sales. She was actively involved in the Red River County Historical Society and served as its past president and was a permanent member of its Board of Directors. She also served on the Texas Historical Commission and assisted in obtaining various historical markers for Red River County. In addition, she was a member of the Red River County Chamber of Commerce and was admitted to its Hall of Fame. She was a past member of the Good Earth Garden Club. Mary was a very caring daughter, wife, and mother and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
