Obituary of Jackie Ray Barton
Jackie Ray Barton of Bagwell, Texas passed away on Friday, March 15, 2019 in Paris, Texas. He was born on June 14, 1949 in Clarksville, Texas to Helen and Kirk Barton. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Stephen Stringer of Paris, a grandson, Keith Henderson of Blossom, Texas, granddaughters, Kaylee Kent, Kaylie Stringer, Haylie Stringer, and Nikole Stringer of Paris and three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Alaina, and Grayson. He is also survived by a brother, Presley (Buddy) Eddins of Blossom,Texas, a sister, Tempie Johnson of Detroit, Texas, and a twin sister, Kay Wells Bruner of Greenwood, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy Eddins and Henry Burl Barton of Bagwell, Texas, granddaughter, Tyler Henderson and a sister, Ida May Giles of Clarksville, Texas. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Jackie Ray Barton graduated from Clarksville High School in 1967 and received his Masters degree from East Texas State and was currently employed as a math teacher at Linden-Kildare ISD. He spent over 30 years in education including teaching at Clarksville ISD, Dallas ISD and Lancaster ISD as well as serving as principal at Simms ISD and Superintendent at Forestburg ISD, He served as a county commissioner in Red River County during the 1980s, Jackie loved his students and loved children in general. His joy everyday was teaching and his family. He loved cooking for others and enjoyed a good laugh and loved to play pranks on folks. He spent his life helping others and enjoying his family and friends. Jackie was a member of the Bagwell Church of Christ.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Lindeman Funeral Home Chapel with Buddy Eddins officiating.
Visitation will befrom 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Blanton Creek Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to LK Junior High with “Mr. Barton” in the memo. 205 Kildare Rd, Linden, Texas 75563. To quote the principal: “I will make sure it goes to support the things he held dear---students being successful and loving math because they loved their teacher!”
