Obituary of Watha Jo Stroud

~~Watha Jo Henderson Stroud, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on Monday, November 27 at Medical City Plano.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at McKenzie Memorial United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jerry Colgrove officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m.   Services are under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.   Pallbearers will be Boyce Tull, Mack Humphrey, Gaines McCulloch, Sammy Humphrey, John Nichols, James Davis, Gene Whitsell, Gary Wilkins, David Jackson and James Brantley. Honorary pallbearers are members of the McKenzie Memorial United Methodist Church Choir and the Winmore Sunday school class.

 The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Clarksville Funeral Home.

She was born on July 20, 1935, in Hugo, Oklahoma, to William Henry Henderson and Opal Phillips Henderson. Watha graduated from Hugo High School in 1953 and then attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas.  She graduated in 1957 with an education degree and went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Education from Texarkana College, Texarkana, Texas.  She started her teaching career in Dallas for five years, and then the next 25 years as a second grade teacher in Clarksville, Texas.On August 11, 1962, she married Frank B. Stroud.  They were blessed with two sons, Keith Henderson Stroud of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Kenneth Berry Stroud of College Station, Texas, both of which she was very proud.  She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Rori Stroud, grandchildren Sadie and Ty Stroud, all of Sulphur Springs, and nephews, Pat Stroud of Sachse, and Brian Stroud of Albertville, Minnesota.

Watha was a member of McKenzie Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.  She was a member of the Winmore Sunday School Class.  Watha was a member of the ETMC Auxiliary, Delta Kappa Gamma, New Century Club, and Red River Retired Teachers.  She was also a member of the Red River Public Library, where she served on the board and loved to read.  Other hobbies included painting with watercolors and oils, working crossword puzzles, and playing bingo with friends.
