Obituary of Buford Earl Cates

Buford “Bob” Earl Cates, age 72, of Detroit, passed away, Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at his residence. Bob was born March 17, 1944, in Winnsboro to Buford Dean and Lois Ruth Taylor Cates. Bob enjoyed being in the outdoors, he loved gardening and fishing. Bob also loved his friends and family and church family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilanda Cates and 3 brothers, William Dean “Bill” Cates, John Paul Hemphill and Dennis A. Cates. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Fulbright Church of Christ. Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Fulbright Church of Christ with Pastor Jeff Blanton officiating. Burial will follow in Detroit Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are: David Blanton, Gerald Cobb, Charles Skaggs, Randy Miller, Jacob Blanton and Clifton Pullen. Survivors include his sisters, Bobbie Walker of Alba, Mary L. Maddux and husband, Robert "Bob" of Huntsville, Joann Howard and husband, Donny of Mount Pleasant and Patsy R. Barton and husband, Jim of Lone Star; his brothers, John Cates of Longview and Byron Ray Cates of Lone Star ; his nephews, Stephen Cates and Randy Cates and numerous other nieces and nephews.
