Obituary of Grace Aileen Baldwin
Grace Aileen Baldwin, or “Mother Goose”, age 92, of Avery, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017, at Hartsville Convalescent Center in Hartsville, Tennessee. Mrs. Baldwin was born July 29, 1924, to Edgar and Ruthie Caroline Denison McPeak. She later moved to Idabel, Oklahoma, with her husband, Ed, and daughter, Edwina, where she would become a seamstress, even doing work out of her home after her retirement from Faye’s Fabrics. She loved to sew, whether it be clothes or quilts, and many of her creations are still being used to this day. Grace was affectionately known as Mother Goose, a nickname given by her grandson, Jeffery, after he couldn’t pronounce Grace. The name stuck, and people used it to the last day of her life.
Mrs. Baldwin was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Baldwin; her daughter, Edwina Williams; 3 brothers, Albert, Weldon and Joseph McPeak; and 1 sister, Claudia Phelps.
Survivors include her grandson, Jeffery Williams, and his wife, Debra of Melissa; her granddaughter, Amber Carroll, and her husband, Gary of Lebanon, Tennessee; 3 great-grandchildren, Colby and Lauren Williams of Carthage, and Brody Carroll of Lebanon, Tennessee; 2 sisters, Flora Bell Jackson of Avery and Velma Chapman of Avery; her son-in-law, David Williams of Lebanon, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are, Roy Jackson, Leonard Jackson, Murray Jackson, Jody McPeak, Colby Williams and Jeff Williams.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m.m Tuesday, February 21, 2017, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Avery Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
Visitation will be an hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home.
