Obituary of Edgar "Eddie" Slaton

The Reverend Edgar Allen “Eddie” Slaton, age 82, of Bogata, passed away, Saturday, December 24, 2016, on his way to listen to his grandson preach Christmas Eve Services in Fulbright. Bro. Eddie was of the Baptist Faith and preached the Gospel for over 40 years. He loved to cook and his specialty was BBQ. His slogan was, “You tried the rest, now try the best”. Eddie was an avid domino player and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Most importantly, he was a man of God and was always spreading the word. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1954. Bro. Eddie was born July 1, 1934, in the Minter Community to Willie Jack and Lucy Shipp Slaton. His 2 sisters; Lola Webb and Jan McGuire preceded him in death. Funeral services are set for 12:00 noon, Wednesday, December 28, 2016, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Bro. Brandon Bell and Bro. Lucas Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Star Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are W.F. “Babe” Higgins, Charlie McGuire, Regan Bell, John Davidson, Jarrod Miller and Chad Stansbury. Honorary Pallbearers will be his nephews. The family will receive friends an hour before service time at Clarksville Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Charline Humphrey Slaton of Bogata; 1 son, Kelly Dean Slaton and wife, Linda of Bogata; 2 daughters, Rue Anna Bell and husband, Ragan of Bogata and Gayln Ziegler of Houston; 1 sister, Nancy Higgins and husband Babe of Clarksville; 9 grandchildren, LaTonya Miller of Bogata, Crystal Davidson of Bogata, Brandon Bell of Bogata, LaCona Slaton of Bogata, Jeremy Thompson of Springfield, Missouri, Jeremy Hall, Emily Worthington, Jason Thompson and Jo Lynn Glass.; 15 great grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
