Obituary of Walter Erby Stinson

Walter Erby Stinson, age 87, of Avery, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in DeKalb. Mr. Stinson was born June 22, 1923, in the West Bowie Community of Bowie County to Walter and Ollie Duncan Stinson. He was retired from the U.S. Army Reserves, the Red River Army Depot and served as Mayor for the City of Avery. Walter was a member of the First Baptist Church in Avery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Matthews Stinson; his sisters, Christine Hutchison, Thelma Fretwell; his brothers, Joe Stinson, Horace Stinson, Keeney Stinson and Elvin Stinson; and a granddaughter, Celia Joyner. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2010, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Stinson officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Avery Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Doyal Duncan, John Brown, Mack Dean, Billy Don Carson, Morris Trimm and Martin Peek. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 at Clarksville Funeral Home. Survivors include a son, Harold Stinson and wife Pam of Graham; two daughters, Nythalia Evans and husband Terry of Wills Point and Kandy Joyner and husband David of the West Bowie Community; two sisters, Bertha Burgess of Dallas and Delma Goodwin of Kerrville; three brothers, James G. Stinson of Texarkana, Boss Stinson of Maud and Melvin Stinson of the West Bowie Community; seven grandchildren, Michelle Hudson, Kristie Geist, Wendy Kostopulous, David Joyner, Jr., Tim Stinson, Jamie Lowe and Corley Lowe; and ten great-grandchildren.
