Obituary of James E. Meals

James Ellis “Babe” Meals, Sr., age 74, of Clarksville, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at Paris Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Gossett and Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Star Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6 to 8 at Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Rickey Moore, Mickey Moore, Ben Phillips, Lonnie Rushing, Heath Humphrey, Hunter Humphrey and Layne Lindeman. “Babe”, also known as “Poppy” was born December 31, 1935, in Red River County to Lewis and Eurilla Nabors Meals. He married Jane McGill on September 5, 1958, in New Boston. “Babe” loved his family and being with them in the outdoors while camping, four wheel riding or being at the deer camp. He retired from the family business, Lewis Meals and Son’s Lumber. "Babe" was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lewis Meals, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Jane Meals; his son, James Ellis Meals, Jr. and wife Donna of Clarksville; his daughter, Cathy Phillips and husband Eddie of the Lone Star Community; his grandchildren, Courtney Phillips, Alex Meals and Drew Meals; and a brother, Rickey Meals of Clarksville. In lieu of flowers the family has asked for memorials to be sent to the First Baptist Church Building Fund at 501 S.
