Obituary of Martha Grace Gooding

Martha Grace Gooding, age 92, of Texarkana, formerly of Clarksville, passed away Saturday, March 05, 2016, at Cornerstone Retirement Community. Mrs. Gooding was born on September 17, 1923, in the Liberty Community of Red River County near Detroit. She was a retired school teacher, having taught at the Paris Independent School District and De Kalb Independent School District for 42 years. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Clarksville, where she taught Sunday school class for many years before moving to Texarkana. She was the daughter of Rose-Lee Hart Somerville and Henry Chambers Somerville. Mrs. Gooding is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Gooding; her grandson, Kent Gooding and 8 brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. March 8, 2016, prior to the funeral at the First Baptist Church. Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2015 at the Frist Baptist Church in Clarksville with Rev. Mark Gossett officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Serving as Pallbearers are; Don Eudy, Chad Eudy, Gary Lynch, Alan Bean, Tommy VanDeaver, Darald Kuhlengal, James Jones and Larry Stratton. Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. Gooding and wife, Janice of Clarksville and William C. Gooding and wife Jackie of Texarkana; 4 grandchildren, Alan Gooding of Tucson, AZ, Brandon Gooding of Birmingham, AL, Gordon Gooding of Katy and Grant Gooding of Missouri City, TX; 8 great grandchildren; 1 sister, RaeJean Moore of Denton. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Clarksville, 1501 Hwy. 37 S. Clarksville, Texas 75426, for the children’s playground fund or the church’s building fund.
