Obituary of Norma Louise Smith Murphy

Norma Louise Smith Murphy was born August 1, 1923 in Avery to Claude Lester and Myrtle Mabel Smith. She passed away July 13, 2010, at the age of 87, in Odessa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Kloey Grace Wickens; her brothers, Mangus Smith and Earl Smith; and her sister, Nonnette Hammett. Norma’s greatest joy was in her children. They include her two daughters, Edna Louise Murphy Westmoreland and husband Ted of Kermit and Kelly Murphy Wickens and husband Jim of San Antonio; and two granddaughters, Kasey Meredith Wickens and Kerby Faith Wickens. She is also survived by her brothers, Magel Smith of Andrews and Charles Larry Smith of Idabel, Oklahoma; and her sister, Claudene Bohlar of Brazoria. Aunt Louise will always be a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews, Royce Hammett, Jr., Ronald Hammett, Ryan Hammett, Donna Bohlar Schroeder, Terri Smith Olsen, Sandi Smith Crawford, Charles Larry Smith, Jr., and Tiffiany Smith Kaufman, as well as her many precious great nieces and nephews. At the age of 13 her family moved to the farm house that sat on the Bowie/ Red River County Line. Norma Louise graduated with honors in 1942 from Spring Hill High School. She loved to read and learn but her real passion was that of a seamstress. This gift sent her to the Texas State Fair Competition many times. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 8 at Clarksville Funeral Home. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2010 under the Pavilion at Pine Springs Cemetery in Avery with Rev. Mark Gossett officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Springs Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
