Obituary of Atheal Presley Jackson

Atheal Presley Jackson, age 93 of Avery, departed to be with his Heavenly Father in Glory on Monday, March 15, 2010. Mr. Jackson committed his life to his family; instilling in each the importance of hard work and a dedication to the Lord. For 68 years, he devoted himself to his wife, Rachel. Much of his life was spent as a farmer and rancher. He loved working in his garden and raising crops. Every day was a blessing and he looked forward to the dawning of each, to spend it doing what he loved. His sense of humor and sharp wit were staples of his unforgettable personality, continuing even into the final years of his life. Mr. Jackson was born September 16, 1916 in Red River County, Texas to Thurman and Cora House Jackson. He attended Avery United Methodist. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three brothers, Woodrow, Cecil and Martin “Jap” Jackson. Graveside services will be Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Avery Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Avery Cemetery Pavilion Fund, P.O. Box 268, Avery, Texas 75554. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Henry Freeman and son and daughter-in-law, Blake and Nancy Jackson of Avery; two grandsons, Michael Jackson and Brent and wife Brooke of Avery; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jace, Logan, and Kendall; one brother, Joe Jackson; and one sister, Eva Dawson Bassett; numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives. As his health faded, his life was enriched by special caregivers, Ruthie Ross and Lynn Weemes.
