Obituary of Jack Weldon Baird

Jack Weldon Baird, age 73, of Avery, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at his residence. Mr. Baird was born August 14, 1938, in the Boxelder Community of Red River County to Alvin and Mildred Floyd Baird. He married Vara Sullivan on September 23, 1961, in Clarksville and celebrated 50 years of marriage last September. Mr. Baird received his Masters of Education and obtained his Counseling Certificate from East Texas State University in Commerce. He retired from De Kalb ISD, was a member of the Boxelder United Methodist Church, served in the National Guard and was called into active duty and served as a medic. He was a lifelong rancher and a partner with his brother, with Baird Brothers Charolais, but the happiest times of his life were those spent with his beloved grandchildren. He loved his family dearly. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Janet Hausler, Sue Blake and Neva Jo Baird; and a brother, Oscar Tom Baird. Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Don C. Benton officiating. Burial will follow in Savannah Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Brody Baird, Brent Baird, Ronnie McMillon, Craig Mueller, Dr. David Murphy and John King Williams, Jr. Survivors include his wife Vara Baird of Avery; his son, Dr. Michael Baird and wife, Melissa of De Kalb; his grandchildren, Jack Henry Baird, Caroline Lee Baird and Thomas Sullivan Baird; 2 sisters, Opal Waller of De Kalb and Ann Jones and husband, Bill of De Kalb; 1 brother, A.B.”Scooter” Baird and wife, Cynthia Ann of Boxelder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
