Obituary of Robert Storey

Robert Taylor Storey, Sr. passed away on April 12, 2012, in Austin Texas. Robert was born to Tommie (Taylor) and Louis Richard Storey, on March 23, 1930, in English, Texas. He was the second of four children. Robert's father taught in several one room schools in the Clarksville area where Robert started his education by attending the schools where his father taught. When the family moved to Clarksville in the late 30's, Robert started attending school in Clarksville. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1946 and attended Texas Tech for a short while before enlisting in the Navy. Robert married Bettie Jane Dobson, April 30, 1950, in the Presbyterian church. They were married for almost 62 years. They have three children, Billie Jean, Vickie and Robert, Jr. When Robert and Bettie married, he was working for a small shoe store on the square. He later went to work for his father-in-law, W. A. Dobson, at the local Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealership. After Mr. Dobson's death, Robert bought the dealership and sold it in the 1970's. Robert owned a Volkswagon dealership in Greenville, Texas, for several years. He and Bettie later moved to Austin, Texas. Robert had recently told his children there were four things that shaped his life. He was born into a wonderful family which taught him how to be an honest man. He was lucky enough to live in Clarksville, Texas. He met and married Bettie Dobson. Lastly, while attending different Texas Automotive Dealership Association Conventions, he met Bob Bullock, who later became the Comptroller for the State of Texas. During that time, Robert was elected to the Texas Automobile Dealers Association as the director. When Bettie and Robert moved to Austin, he was hired to work for the Comptroller's Office. He worked as the director of various tax divisions for the Texas State Comptroller, became Associate Deputy Comptroller for Field Operations and Bond Clerk for the Comptroller, and Director of Veterans Outreach Program for the Texas General Land Office along with various other assignments for the Texas General Land Office. Robert is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Michael Alan Martin; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Jessie (Dobson) and Bill Thacker, Anne (Dobson) and "Dunk" Duncan, and Eldon Moody; niece Sherrill Hodges, and nephew Rex Lee Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Bettie Jane (Dobson); his daughter, Billie Jean (Storey) Cashman and grandchildren, Jeffrey Todd Martin, Anna (Martin) and husband, Matt Curling; daughter Vickie (Storey) and husband David Robison and grandchildren, James Robison, Carrie (Robison) and husband, Matthew Rosenbalm and great grandchild, Christine; son Robert, Jr. and wife, Roynda and grandson, Robert Taylor Storey III; sisters, Gean (Storey) Moody and her children and grandchildren; Ruth Ann (Storey) Hodges and daughter; and his brother, Rickey Storey and wife Martha and their children and grandchildren; Billie (Dobson) and Rex Edwards and their daughter and grandchildren. Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ed Dodson officiating. Services are under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
