Obituary of Mary Rozelle Raulston

Mary Rozelle Denton Raulston – Christian, wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, educator, homemaker – left to be with her Lord on November 26th at Methodist Hospital in Richardson, Tx at 5pm. Rozelle was born October 18, 1919 in Bagwell, Tx to John Carlton Woodson Denton and Sarah Elizabeth Perry Denton. She was the fifth of sixth children and was raised in a very loving and happy home where family and church were most important. Rozelle was a faithful member of the Church of Christ attending worship in Bagwell, Clarksville and Garland, Tx. Rozelle attended school in Bagwell, Tx until she went to high school in Clarksville, Texas and graduated in 1937. She then attended Paris Junior College in Paris, Tx and East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, Tx, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Rozelle started teaching school when she was 20 years old before she earned her degree. Her entire teaching career was in Red River County, Texas. She started teaching in very small country schools where there were only one or two teachers and lived in the communities with families of children she taught. Some of the country schools she taught in were Birmingham, Blanton Creek and Oxford. She also taught for twelve years in the Detroit schools, a short time in Annona and for several years in the Clarksville Schools, retiring with Clarksville ISD in 1980 with 33 years as an educator. Rozelle married Aubrey Dewitt Raulston in June 1955 in the family home in Bagwell, Tx. In October 1958, they were blessed with a daughter, Sarah Beth. A small family with loads of love for each other, she was a wonderful wife and mother. After retiring from teaching, Rozelle made many beautiful quilts, embroidery pieces and wall hangings, as well as taking oil painting classes and painting some beautiful pictures. She also worked with Aubrey in his vegetable gardens. Rozelle won the Extension Service Homemaker of the Year award, she was very proud of this honor. For recreation, Rozelle and Aubrey both loved to play dominos and 42. Rozelle also enjoyed playing computer games, working puzzle books and reading. Rozelle has lived at Chambrel Assisted Living in Garland, Tx the last 11 ½ years and has made many special friends there over the years among the residents and staff of Chambrel. Rozelle is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Richard Mynatt, of Rowlett, TX and her sister-in-laws Louise Denton of Sulphur Springs, Tx and Frances Denton of Pineville, LA. Rozelle was blessed with many nieces Mary Carlton Prunty and husband Kenneth of Mansfield Tx, Gena Horner and husband Dwain of Sulphur Springs, Tx, Sue Denton of Paris, Tx, Lynda Zant and husband Rick of Paris, Tx, Anne BattIstelli and husband John of Pineville, LA, Amy Denton of Destrehan, LA, Julie Roses of Grand Prairie, Tx and Jan Eddins and husband Perry of Richardson, Tx. She is also survived by special great-nephews and nieces, cousins and many friends. Rozelle was preceded by her husband Aubrey Raulston who passed from this life in October 2001, her parents, her brothers, Lynn, Ray, Calvin and Mason and her sister Laura Mae, her sister-in-law Bessie Denton and her brother-in-law J.W. Kincaid. Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at the Bagwell Church of Christ with Buddy Eddins and Steve Marx officiating. Burial will follow in New Haven Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Kenneth Prunty, Shawn Prunty, Dwain Horner, Rick Zant, Steve Raulston and Perry Eddins. Honorary Pallbearers are Allen Vickers, Dickie Ewing, George Gordon, Jessie Loucks, Buddy Eddins, Steve Marx, Benny Cogburn and Billy Bob Hill.
