Obituary of Eugene Graydon Howlett

Eugene G. Howlett (Sir), age 78, of Clarksville, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Regency Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Gene was born on Number 5 Ditch near Malden, Missouri, March 5, 1933, to Aubrey and Madge Howlett. He married Eva Kate “Kitty” Walker on August 25, 1956. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church, Clarksville, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War based in Maine and Texas. Gene obtained an undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Arkansas and a Masters from East Texas State University. He was a coach in Foreman, Arkansas and Avery, Texas. He was assistant principal, principal and administrator in Clarksville, Texas and was an educator for thirty-five years. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, by an infant sister, Carolyn, and by his older sister, Betty. Survivors include two sons: Doug and daughter-in-law Shannan Howlett of Detroit, Tx. and Steven and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Howlett of Rockville, Maryland; a sister, Bonnie Holcomb of Olathe, KS, a sister, Marilyn Barks of Malden, MO, seven grandchildren: Abigail, Samuel, Kaitlyn, Adam, Rebecca, Allison and Sarah. Funeral services are scheduled for 9:00 a.m., August 1, 2011, at the First Baptist Church, 1501 US Hwy 82 Bypass, in Clarksville. Scott Wright and Reverend James Brown will be officiating. Burial follows at Woodmen Cemetery in DeKalb under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. His pallbearers include: Alan Bean, Darald Kuhlengel, Brandon Kuhlengel, Matt Kuhlengel, Marty Daniell, Glen Edwards, Jeremy Townes and Sterling Dockins.
