Obituary of Govan Toby Thomas

Govan “Toby” Thomas, age 90, of the Albion Community, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011, at ETMC Clarksville. Mr. Thomas was born December 9, 1920, in Rotan to George Andy and Flosella Bacot Thomas. He was a member of the Albion Christian Worship Center and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Myrtle Hays on October, 9, 1945, in Lucedale, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by two bothers and one sister. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Albion Christian Worship Center with Bro. Ron Short and Bro. Ralph Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Albion Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour before service time at the church. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Thomas of the home; two sons, Govan LaPier Thomas, Jr. and Troy Lawrence Thomas and wife Debra all of the Albion Community; one daughter, Vivian Gaines of the Albion Community; one sister, Harvella Johnson of Lubbock; eight grandchildren, Michael Thomas and wife Kathy, Sandie Franklin and husband, Terry, Stephen Thomas, Christy Wheatley, Bill Fredrick, George Fredrick, Nancy Joyner and husband, David and Marla Richardson and husband, Michael; twenty five great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Stephen Thomas, Michael Thomas, Cory Carrell, Bill Fredrick, David Joyner, Jr. and Michael Richardson. Honorary Pallbearers are Forrest Roraback, Larry Ervin and Mike Harvill.
