Obituary of John Edmond Townes

John Edmond Townes, age 88, of Clarksville, died Monday, December 27, 2010 at Regency Healthcare and Rehab Center. Mr. Townes was born July 24, 1922, in Red River County to Jack and Lucy Foshee Townes. He married Dorothy Cremeen on March 11, 1941 and was a member of the Lanes Chapel Baptist Church and served in the Army during WWII. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Townes; and a brother, Billy Jack Townes. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cremeen Townes of Clarksville; a son, Gerald Townes and wife Elaine of Clarksville; three daughters, Sue Giddens and husband Jim of Paris, Barbara Gibbs of Forney and Annette Brown and husband Clifton of Clarksville; a daughter in law, Donna Townes Smith of Clarksville; two sisters, Marie Massey of Fulbright and Ruth McIntire of Bagwell; one brother, Larry Townes of Detroit; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. Don Shovan and Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Lanes Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 to 8 at Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Gary Townes, Shane Joplin, Michael Townes, Johnny McGuire, Wesley Giddens and Rick Jordan. Honorary Pallbearers are Cole Phelps, Bobby Hevron, James Giddens, Charlie Townes and Dean Hall. Memorials may be made in Mr. Townes name to the Lanes Chapel Cemetery fund at 1736 FR 3390 Clarksville, Texas 75426.
