Obituary of Rose Marie Benton

Rose Marie Benton, age 89, passed into life eternal Wednesday afternoon, January 2 at her residence in Dallas, Texas.

 

She was born in McAllen, in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas to Elmer C. Bentsen & Marie J. Nessen Bentsen. After graduating from McAllen High School “Rosie” attended Hockaday Jr. College and SMU where she studied classical music and was a concert pianist before moving to New York where she was a model.

On May 16, 1953 she married the love of her life, Reverend Donald R. Benton, and they enjoyed the next 65 years together. She enjoyed life to the fullest with her family, all the while being a loving support to her husband’s ministry in Dallas.  She loved to visit the “Arrowhead Ranch” in Clarksville which her father began in 1948 and her family continues to run today.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ted Bentsen of McAllen and a son, David Benton of Dallas.

She is survived by her husband, four children, son Don “Dink” Benton and his wife Shelley of Clarksville, daughter Donna Benton of Dallas, son Dallas Benton and his wife Stacy of Richardson, daughter Debbie and her husband Jake Deason of Plano. Seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and her brother Calvin and Marge Bentsen of McAllen.

 

A private family graveside service will be held at Arrowhead Ranch, under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

The Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Richardson, Wednesday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the following churches where Dr. Don & Rosie would attend when visiting the ranch. Annona, Boxelder or Lone Star United Methodist Churches.
