Obituary of Roy Gerald Capps

Roy Gerald Capps, age 85, of Clarksville, passed away, Sunday, September 02, 2018, at Clarksville Nursing Center.  Gerald was born, August 18, 1933, in the Cuthand Community to Roy Mann and Annie Bernice Latimer Capps.  Most of his young life was spent at Cuthand working with his grandfather on the farm.  He attended Clarksville High School and graduated at age fifteen.  Being unable to get a job he traveled with his father that sold military insurance which led him to take a job with Prudential Insurance when he reached the age of twenty.  Gerald moved to Dallas and married Ruby Bailey on October 1, 1953.  He moved back to Clarksville in 1968 and purchased Smith -Sims Insurance.  Later he purchased Bryson Insurance Agency in Bogata.  In 1973 he purchased Hughston and Son Insurance Agency and changed the name of all three to Capps Insurance Agency.  He took great pride in taking care of his clients.  Gerald was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter which he enjoyed with his family and old time friends.   He loved being back in Clarksville so he could raise his four sons in his hometown.  Gerald was a member of the Odd Fellows, the Rotary Club, a Mason and served on the Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Board. His brother, David Capps; and two sisters, Mildredge Warthan and Trullus Eudy preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Capps of Clarksville; four sons, Kyle Capps and wife, Dawn of Whitesboro, Steve Capps and wife, Judy of Mt. Pleasant, Aaron Capps and wife Erin of Austin and Brian Capps and wife, Robyn of Bullard; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and his best friend, Jones Wayne Roberts. 

Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 6, 2018, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with Rev. James Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in Whiteman Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Clarksville Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Kyle Capps, Brian Capps, Steve Capps, Aaron Capps, Kristopher Capps and Brandon Higginbotham.

Honorary Pallbearers are Paul Jones, Jones Roberts, Dr. B.C. Muthappa, Paul Hammer, Rickey Roberts and Paul Allen. 

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for memorials to be made to the Hope Ministries P.O. Box 1618, Mt. Pleasant, Texas 75456.
