Obituary of William H Hammer

William Henry “Bill” Hammer, age 100, of Clarksville, passed away, Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Clarksville Nursing Center. Mr. Hammer was a longtime farmer and rancher in Red River County. He loved his occupation and hunting was his pastime. He was born in the Fulbright Community of Red River County to Henry Hansen and Lillie Mae Brock Hammer. He was a long time member and Deacon at the Aikin Grove Missionary Baptist Church and served on the P.C.A. board in Red River County for 33 years. Mr. Hammer married Bonnie Adams in 1931, who preceded him in death on January 9, 2000. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m., Monday, April 7, 2014, at the Aikin Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Aikin Grove Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m., at Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Scotty Humphrey, Johnny Drew, Mike McGuire, Gene McGuire, Sidney Ingram and Bobby Brown. Survivors include one son, Paul Hammer of Clarksville; two daughters, Shirley Whiteman and husband, Rick of Mesquite and Patsy Cox and husband, Mike of Childress; grandchildren, Mike Whiteman, Todd Whiteman, Robin Marks, Tim Hammer, Christi Smith and Chad Cox; eight great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Ruth Murry of Clarksville. Memorials may be to the Aikin Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1721 W. Horseshoe Dr., Clarksville, Texas 75426.
