Obituary of Bettie Dobson Storey

Bettie Jane Dobson Storey passed away December 2, 2013, four days shy of her 83rd birthday. Memorial services are set for 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 15, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Ed Dodson officiating. Services are under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour before service time at the church. Bettie was born to William Arnold and Jessie Dobson on December 6, 1930. She was born in Texarkana, Texas and the family later moved to Clarksville. Bettie was the third of four daughters. Sisters include; Ann, Jessie and her twin sister, Billie. Bettie graduated from Clarksville High School and attended Austin College in Sherman. She married Robert Storey, Sr., April 30, 1950. They were married almost 62 years. They have three children; Billie Jean, Vickie Elaine and Robert Taylor, Jr. Bettie and Robert moved from Clarksville to Greenville in 1971. They moved to Austin in 1975. Bettie worked for several state agencies before she retired. She worked for the Lighthouse for the Blind, The School Tax Board and the Texas General Land Office. After retirement, Bettie and Robert owned a business selling Texas maps. They attended events across Texas selling the maps. They also had maps placed in many antique malls. Attending weekend events, restocking and mailing maps was a new, full time job. Bettie made friends wherever she went. The business, Maps of Texas, was just one more way for Bettie to shop and to make new friends. In 2012, as she was moving to Dallas, she was given an award for her 27 years of volunteer service to the Austin Travis County Integral Care. Bettie had moved to Dallas to be near her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived at C.C. Young Retirement Campus. In recent years, her health had slowed her down, but she was still volunteering to drive her friends where ever they needed to go. Bettie is preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, grandson, Michael Alan Martin, sister, Ann and brother-in-law, “Dunk” Duncan, sister, Jessie and brother-in-law, Bill Thacker, brother-in-law, Rex Edwards, Sr., nephew, Rex Lee Edwards, Jr., brother-in-law, Eldon Moody, nephews, James Hodges and Sherrill Hodges. She is survived by her sister, Billie Edwards; daughter, Billie Cashman and her husband Dan; grandchildren, Jeffery Martin, Anna Martin Curling and husband Matt; great-grandchild, Sophia Curling; daughter, Vickie Robison and husband David; grandchildren, James Robison, Carrie Rosenbalm and husband Matthew; great-grandchildren, Christine and Taylor Rosenbalm; son, Robert Storey, Jr. and wife Roynda; grandson, Robert Storey, III; two sister-in-law’s, Gean Moody and Ruth Ann Hodges; brother-in-law, Rickey Storey and wife Martha, along with many nieces and nephews.
