Obituary of James Allen Johnson

James Allen Johnson, Jr., age 77, of Detroit, passed away, Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Medical Center in Plano. Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at the Bagwell Church of Christ with Steve Marx and Presley “Buddy” Eddins officiating. Burial will follow in Blanton Creek Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Perry Eddins, Cody Woods, Anthony Myers, Kenny Frazier, Buck Moseley and Dennis James, Jr. James was born November 15, 1935, in Paris to James Allen and Jessie B. Miller Johnson, Sr. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kerry Johnson and a sister. He married Tempie Stephens on October 19, 1964, in Powderly. He graduated from Detroit High School in 1954 and then from East Texas State University in 1958 and was drafted to the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He was a faithful member and Treasurer of the Bagwell Church of Christ and regularly attended worship services and Bible classes. James retired from Lone Star Steel in 1997 after 28 years of service. He was an avid farmer and loved flowers, vegtetables and usually raised truck patches. He also raised catfish and loved digging with a shovel and spent lots of time at the cabin on the back part of the property. James adored his grandkids, loved family reunions, holidays and loved playing gin rummy. Survivors include his wife Tempie of Detroit; 2 sons, Stephens Johnson and wife Cayce of Sulphur Springs and Chris Lindley and wife Cynthia of Abilene; 3 daughters, Sherry Karrh of DeKalb, Tammy Hutchins and husband Wendell of Sherman and Mary Kay Johnson of Detroit; 5 sisters, Roberta Manning of Irving, Vida Frazier of Paris, Ruth Powell and husband Raymond of Venezuela, Sarah Hess of Ft. Worth and Vena Johnson of Paris; 1 brother, Leo Johnson and wife Dorothy of Paris; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
